My Story
Story
Why did I start raising mealworms
For the past several years I was living on a 2 acre rural property. There, I was looking after my elderly mother. She enjoyed looking out and seeing the wildlife.
I built several bird boxes and installed WiFi cameras in them. We were able to watch the birds nesting on the large screen TV in the house. Mother past away in the fall of 2022 and I relocated to a smaller property in Belleville.
The birdbox I set up attracted a pair of Chickadee's this spring. Unfortunately the other birds did not follow. In order to attract more birds to the yard, I decided that something other than bird seed needed to be offered. With that in mind, I turned to raising my own mealworms.
It is my hope to raise mealworms and offer them to others in the area for birds or exotic pets people may have.
Mealworms are interesting creatures. It's interesting to observe what they do and how they grow. My hope is to attract Blue birds to the yard and birdbox in the spring, my fingers are crossed.
In the mean time I hope to meet new people in the area with the same interest and also some exotic pet owners. Gecko's, Bearded Dragons, skinks, chameleons, Hedge Hogs, turtles enjoy mealworms Rodents enjoy Mealworms also, guinea pigs, hamsters, and ferrets plus many more animals.
This is an incredible learning experience. For what fist looks like a simple wiggly worm, there is a great deal to know about it for caring and raising a small critter.
This is not my first business adventure. Many years ago, I created a business model for a cloth diaper service. I had that running about 3 years.
